I'm starting to wonder if I should have bought my Alphasmart when I did. Now that they have released more portable writing tablets, I wonder if it would have been better to wait. The Alphasmart was useful for writing notes at school, but now I'm pretty much done with that. I'd like the freedom of a larger screen. Something tells me I might end up with something similar to what you want at some point, though of course in the meantime there's nothing wrong with an Alphasmart. Sounds good to me!
