Origami Unfolding
November 29th, 2009
Single stage. Empty handed.
The crowd deaf and willing.
Holding hope like origami,
A paper crane with paper cut wings.
Lifted high. The lights go bright.
Curtain drawn. Waiting. Wishing.
A cricket’s chirp. The shift of seat.
Soundless criticism from mice unworthy of the cat.
Held up higher. Teetering.
Testing the wind with a tongue of color.
Crowd sits forward. Unmoved.
Missing the greatest thing never seen.
Torn wings take flight.
Beyond light. Beyond dark.
Through shadow and glow.
Above the dust specks.
Headlong into the rafters.
Gasp. Blind eyes blink.
A child shouts “It’ll get trapped!”
And then…
We two stood watching,
As the ceiling opened up.
Cobwebs shaken. Plaster raining.
Paper cut wings freed.
A broken poem rising into the deep blue of night.
And all the crowd saw was me.
Holding up a crinkled piece of paper.
A sacrifice to the false lights of the stage.
All sitting forward. Deaf, dumb, and willing.
Oblivious to the gaping hole in their theatre.
While the child and I watched
The origami of this world
Turned inside out.
~Spirit~

it was one wonderful poem spirit. i am just bowled over by it. this time i am simply speechless.
how have u been dear?
keep conjuring more such beautiful poems.
do you have any idea about Joe?
take care girl. :)
You’re alive!!! I’ve missed you quite a bit, dearie. :) Things have been a bit of a tornado around here so I’m afraid I haven’t been making all my blog reading rounds as I should but I do still check up on you from time to time. :)
About Jo, I visited her blog one day and it was ‘poof!’ Completely gone without a word. I’ve done some searches for her online here and there but come up with nothing so far and it seems her email is no good either. I’m hoping she’ll be back in the blogosphere someday but so far I’ve seen no trace of her. I’m praying that everything is well.
Thankies about the poetry. :D:D Reminds me I still owe you a poem. ;)
I really like this Spirit, I have red it about 4 times now and I keep coming back. I’m not sure what about it crabs me but it just does.
Thank you, thank you! :D I’m not sure what was happening when I wrote this piece, I wrote it in a series of sorts- a set of mental images that just kept reshaping themselves into… well, this. :) If you’re interested in seeing the other of this one you can find it here: http://written-whispers.com/blog/2009/10/19/papercut-wings/ Written at the same time, we a similar mindset but completely different. :) :D
There is some fabulous stuff in this one such as tongue of color :)
You know I always love to see a poem from you, well any writing, but I’m just a poet at heart!
Thankies muchly. :D Seems I have more poetry coming out as of late- just takes me a little while to get it up here sometimes. Poetry is still a bit of an unexplored terrain for me- good thing I like unexplored. :D
