Belated Update – Accident

February 28th, 2009

Sorry to all of you who’ve been worried about me. I meant to write this sooner but I’ve been focused on recuperating and taking more time for myself… and I’ve had a few battles along the way, most of which I won’t be sharing, that are still weighing on my mind.

-

Anyways, just a little update. The night after my last post my Hubby took me in to the emergency room. It was my night of work since the accident and heedless to say- it didn’t go so well. My neck was so bad I wanted to cry, lifting things hurt, and every time I moved a certain way all these little electrical shocks would rush right up my spine and I’d see these tiny white diamonds flash behind my eyelids.

-

Sadly, that wasn’t why my Hubby took me in.

-

I have problems with my spine and hip so we expected that kind of trouble but there was this huge, swollen, area just to the right of my abdomen- not quite next to my hip. There wasn’t any bruise but it was so bad you could still tell there was something wrong just by looking at it. We were worried that maybe when my elbow came back (the way I sit, car hits, jerks forward, jerks back, elbow comes back into abdomen) it might have jabbed my appendix.

-

So, we took me to the emergency room and… well, the whole experience was worse in my perspective than the actual crash. We went in directly after work, so about one or two in the morning, and didn’t get home till maybe seven. There’s a 30-40 minute drive from my area to there.

-

They took me in, gave me like six X-rays (nothing new to me) and a cat scan- one of the worst experiences in my life even though it was pretty much routine. I don’t really want to go into the details of all that stuff, let’s just say I held it in until I got back to my room and then I cried as soon as my Husband was within reach. I don’t do hospitals, small spaces, needles, strangers, random incidents with chemical dyes, or anything like that very well. The combination all together after a painful day at work that still had me reeling was just far too much for me to handle in such a short period of time.

-

The good news is all I had was whiplash with some muscle bruising. As far as my abdomen goes, the cat scans revealed that when my elbow came back it bruised one of my ovaries causing a cyst to form super fast. For those of you who don’t know, cysts aren’t bad. In fact 80% of girls and women have cysts on and off throughout their entire lives but most of them don’t even know it. It’s just something that happens. Sometimes though, when conditions are just right, cysts are very, very, very noticeable not to mention painful.

-

The nurses gave me some pain pills for my neck and the cyst, did some blood work, and then we all went through an interesting experience with my past medical records. The very last time I’d been in the emergency room, eight years ago maybe, my ‘bio mother’ had apparently put that I was allergic to shellfish, Advil, Tylenol, aspirin, Motrin, Midol, and ibuprofen. I’m not allergic to any of those, and for the record- I love shellfish.

-

Anyways, then we went home. … This is a terribly written post but… whatever. The cyst ruptured maybe two days later… I’m not going to explain that. Now I have to go back to the doctor on Monday or someday… because my abdomen is still hurting but now it’s all over.

-

Alright, that was my update. I need to run off and get some more sleep.

Car Accident – Update

February 7th, 2009

Hey all. I’m a bit cranky today so if the mood of this post seems a little off please just ignore it. We got into a car accident the other day; myself, Kei, my mom-in-law, and a girl we were letting carpool with us. No one was seriously injured but it was pretty bad.

-

Fortunately my mom-in-law was driving because I don’t think either of us girl’s have enough experience on the road to know how to handle something like this. If she hadn’t done things just the way she had the whole thing could have been a lot worse. To top it off just after we picked up this one girl for work, let’s call her HB for simplicity, I spent five minutes nagging her about wearing her seat belt- that’s a huge thing with me. I don’t care that she’s older than whatever and sitting in the back and I don’t care that seat belts take as many lives as they save. When I ride in a car everyone who is riding with me -has- to wear them else we’re not going anywhere. If she hadn’t worn it that morning she’d be in a lot worse shape than she is now and she even agrees on that.

-

Anyways.

-

So, we were coming up to this cross section, not a busy road at all. On our side of the road it was just us, coming towards us but still a ways off was some truck hauling gas and on the cross road was a little Burgundy car about the same size as ours. This area is back in the country a bit, a few houses, farms, but mostly trees surrounding us.

-

We had the right away, the little Burgundy car didn’t. The lady had a stop sign but she never stopped, in fact- I never even saw her break lights come on meaning even if they were faulty she didn’t even tap them and it’s not that she didn’t have a clear view of the area or anything or couldn’t see us coming. Looking back on it I think she wasn’t in a proper condition to be driving. I’m not going to say she was drunk, my personal bias likes to suggest that before anything else but she didn’t seem that way, I think maybe she was sick and just really shouldn’t have been on the road.

-

As soon as she passed that stop sign I knew we were going to hit her, I was in the front passenger seat and it’s not like there’s time to really do anything in a situation like that but it all seemed to be happening so slowly. I was able to brace myself- that’s all I really remember doing. At least two of us screamed but I don’t know which ones or even if it was me. I know I cussed but I don’t know what I said.

-

It was weird to have it all happen in an instant. One moment I could see our cars coming together and though we were both going around 40 or 50 mph I could see the whole thing- until we hit, then everything was going too fast to see.  All in the blink of an eye, one second we were moving and then the next there was this huge sound and it felt like I was being punched in both ears as we all jerked forward, another second later the airbags were out and Mom was shouting for us to all get out of the car.

-

Everything was surreal when we got out of the car, we were so much farther down the road passed the intersection. The Burgundy car sped up before slowing down, turning around, and coming to a halt where the stop sign she should have seen was.

-

I think I was the last one to get out, or maybe it just took me awhile for everything to catch up in my head but when I was out and my brain had cleared Mom was already on the other side of the road talking to the gentleman driving the gas truck while he called someone, Kei and HB were standing outside nearby me, and I was sitting in a snowbank. I sat down right as soon as I got out cause I already have really bad problems with my spine and hip and I know as a general rule after a car accident you don’t always feel things right away what with the adrenalin and all.

-

We each asked each other if we were alright over and over again and the guy asked us if we needed a paramedic- fortunately none of us did, everyone was alright even the other woman. Mom’s knee was a bit sore but goodness it could have been a lot worse. The way she turned made it so that the brunt of the damage was on her side towards the front of the car (which is totalled or near it). My hip hurt but I told everyone it was to be expected after getting jerked around and that I would be alright.

-

We waited half an hour for a cop to show up (we were a ways out of town) and keep in mind it was really cold outside. The truck driver was very nice and offered for us to take turns staying warm in his truck. Mom stayed talking to him an making sure the other woman was alright while the three of us girls huddled together and made calls to the various people who were expecting us to show up at work, my hubby, and new rides for all of us. I can’t tell you how horrible it was to call my husband and tell him we were in an accident and then to hear him panic and ask if we were alright. I never want to have to scare him like that again.

-

Everything was disorienting even though we all felt so clear headed and alert. I remember wondering why everything was hard to look at and then after twenty minutes or so realizing that my glasses weren’t on my face but on the floor of the car. They survived but my cell phone is sort of trashed- works and everything but the display is gibberish.

-

… I’m tired … I think I’m going to wrap this post up. We were all fine, Mom got a ride home and a tow truck took the car, a cop took all of our information and a friend took us girls to work- we all still had two mandatory meetings to go to, one right after another. *ugh*

-

I’ll continue this post later. I’m hurting a lot right now- my neck and hip especially and all I really want to do is go back to sleep. ‘Night.

Got into a car accident today. We’re all okay though the car is totalled. Might take me awhile to respond to comments. Love, peace, tofu.
